Getting Your New Name Right

We are excited about creating a new name for your business, team or brand. Thank you for the chance to walk alongside you on this important journey.

To prep for your first meeting with our team, here are a few questions we would like you to think about. Feel free to make a few notes and come ready to share your insights. We will reference these questions during our session and are here to listen to your input! Our goal is to find a name that both you and your stakeholders will be excited about.

In addition to the questions below, thanks for coming to the meeting with an idea of how much you would like to invest in your domain purchase. Simple .com’s are rare and almost always take some investment to secure. During our meeting, you can let us know if your domain purchasing
budget is $1500, $5,000 or higher. This will help us give you suggestions that are within your budget.

thanks for giving some thought to these questions:

  • What are we naming? What is the ultimate value that your project, service or brand brings?

  • What story do you want your name to tell?

  • Who do you want to tell that story to?

  • What emotions do you want your name to convey?

  • What type of name are you looking for: professional, simple, or creative? Can your new name include real words, fake words or both?

  • Can you share any examples of names you like that model the type of name you are looking for?

  • What kind of URL do you want? ie: .com / .co / .net / .io, etc. Keep in mind that .com may offer less opportunities or require an additional word in the domain itself. There are hundreds of possible domain extensions. If you are unsure, just leave it to us, and we'll find the best fit.

  • Do you have a domain budget? If so, let us know what your maximum investment would be.

A reminder that all our name suggestions will include:

  • Social media handle checks and ideas.

  • Simple trademark checks to help avoid obvious conflicts.*

  • URL domain availability checks and ideas.

  • Detailed explanations, comments and notes on each primary name.

  • Competitive research of existing brands/businesses in your industry, to ensure our presented ideas reflect what can be successful in your industry.

  • All are shared in a formatted and ready-to-present document.

*It’s important to note that trademark checks are never a guarantee. Simple checks can help avoid obvious conflicts but it will ALWAYS ultimately be up to the relevant authorities and experts. Simple checks in this creative stage are a good first step, but a qualified IP expert should always be consulted.

We look forward to meeting with you soon. Please drop us a note at naming@pearlstreet.ca if you have any questions.
